#Procedures of Teaching | Teaching Plan & Practice

1.1 Procedures of Teaching

Before I started the first lesson teaching, I asked one of the students to come forward to lead a prayer. After finished, I gave them Indonesian common quote to attract the students’ willing in get to know each other. The quote was that “Tak Kenal Maka Tak Sayang” which means that if we don’t know each other, we won’t be loving each other. At that time, I used the Filipino Language which turned out confusing the students because the language I used was not well-structured and everyone was laughing. Additionally, I used gimmick strategy such as Hi – Hello, Hello – Hi, and Class – Yes, Sir.

In the beginning, I gave a little introduction using Filipino Language to gain the students’ attention. afterwards, in order to motivate the students to get involved in the learning activities, I a piece of paper for each student and instructed them to write their names and their motto of life and to stick the papers in the blackboard. Therefore, I could recognize the students’ names and appointed them to answer my questions later on.

Getting into the first learning stage, I asked them if they have read about the topic which was about plot and its structures in stories. I gave some questions to the students in order to give them opportunity to speak up their opinion and gathered their answers in the blackboard. I accordingly explained the topic based on the students answers and made a simple illustration to be easily understandable.

The next activity was that I asked the students to watch the Three Little Pigs and to analyze the structure of plot found in the story. I divided the classroom into two big groups. I gave them five pieces of papers and they have to write the result of ther analysis in the papers and to stick them in the blackboard. After finished the task, each representative of the groups should come forward and present their discussion. The next learning activity was doing the worksheet about The Lion Makers in group work of 8 – 10 students for each group. The students should submit their work afterwards.

1.2 Time Management and Organizing Activities

The time given in every single class was 60 minutes. For the first class, I used Indonesian lesson plan version, so that the activities were different with the next teaching which used Philippine version. Basically, both version has the same parts of organizing activities such as greetings and praying in the beginning, checking attendance list, asking and recalling the previous material, giving motivation, presenting the material, discussing the material, evaluating and summarizing the lesson.

1.3 Problem-Solving

Time management became one of the important things to notice because of the limited time for each lesson and activities. The problem solving is to more pay attention the detailed duration for each activity. As far as I experienced in teaching, this can be fixed alternatively by managing the other activities into shorter duration.

1.4 Classroom Management

The classroom was namaged as usually aplied in daily basis. However, it would be different when I organized the activties into groups. The management of the table-chair would be in a circle. Talking about students’ attention, I implemented the gimmick to get the students’ focus back in the learning lesson.
