1.1 Planning for Teaching
The supervising instructor who would help my teaching practice in this program is Mrs. Jonna Mae Belando Colambro. She teaches two subjects which are English for Academic and Professional Purposes and Creative Non-Fiction in PSU – Integrated High School. Before the teaching implementation, She prepared and arranged the lesson plan and any other learning materials that are necessary to bring and to deliver in her classes.
1.2 Preparing Lessons and Materials
The teacher always prepares her lesson before the teaching time. There are two kinds of lesson plan applied in this school which are the detailed lesson plan and semi lesson plan. The difference between both of them is that in detailed lesson plan, the teacher also should mention the activities included the possible respond from the pupils while in semi-detailed is not. Some materials that the teacher has to prepare are lesson plan, media, making materials, so that the teaching steps are completed. Some media that the teacher usually uses in the class are power point, and paper.
1.3 Teaching in Class
In preparation step, teacher always makes the students paying attention on what she delivers because what she has planed to do is following the activities based on the lesson plan. She manages the classroom to be well-arranged and clean by asking the students to make sure that the chairs and rubbish are all in the right place. After that, the teacher asks the leader of the class to lead a prayer first, which is followed by checking the attendance list and the teacher’s motivation about the lesson to make the pupils more excited and engaged with the learning activties the teacher will deliver to them, for example the teacher will show several pictures about the topic and asks to the pupils about that. Sometime, the teacher also reviews about the previous lesson.
In the learning stage, the teacher will deliver about the lesson by video, power point or something else. The teacher will ask the students about their opinion. In the discussion stage, the teacher will deliver the lesson by discussing with the students about the materials. After that the teacher will deliver the generalization of the lesson of that lesson learned and explain to the students why they need to study about the lesson. The activities are also in forms of group presentation, games, performance etc. In evaluation stage, the teacher will give student several questions about the topic for evaluation, and to find out how far the level of student understanding of the lesson.
1.4 Measurement and Evaluation
The teacher will give the students evaluation like worksheet and activities in their books. The teacher is not strictly giving scores based on the task or assignment. The teacher will also assess students’ participation and attention towards the learning activities in the classroom. The evaluation usually comes in the end of the process of the learning activities.
